The convoy of the Ogun State Governor,
Senator Ibikunle Amosun, was on Sunday involved in an accident, leaving
two of his aides injured.
The governor was however unhurt, as the vehicle that was hit in his convoy was among those at the tail of the convoy.
The accident occurred around Sapade
-Ajebo axis, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around 9.30am, while Amosun
was on his way to Ekiti State to attend the inauguration of the new
Government House.
Our correspondent gathered that two
aides of the governor were injured, while some market women in the bus
also sustained injuries.
Our correspondent further gathered that
the accident occurred at a spot where construction works were going on,
forcing motorists to use only two out of the four-lane road.
An eyewitness said the driver of the
commercial bus lost control when he faced the governor’s convoy on the
narrow road and therefore rammed into it (the convoy).
Immediately the accident occurred, the
eyewitness added, the governor alighted from his official jeep and
sympathised with the injured passengers.
The damaged jeep was said to have been taken back to Abeokuta, while its occupants joined another vehicle in the convoy.
Our correspondent could not confirm which hospital the injured were taken to for medical attention.
The Commissioner for Information and
Strategy, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, confirmed the incident but said there
were no casualties and the governor “is hale and hearty.”
He said, “The accident only involved one
of the vehicles at the rear of the convoy. The governor is alive. All
other officials are alive. It was just a minor thing. We are already in
Ekiti for the inauguration of the new Government House built by Governor
Kayode Fayemi.
“Please, help us tell the people that the governor is alive. The calls have been coming from people, asking after his welfare.”
