Youths threaten to blow off Delta-Bayelsa bridge

Some youths from Patani Local Government Area of Delta State have threatened to destroy the vital bridge at Patani linking Delta State and Bayelsa State to protest the imposition of Mrs. Josephine Abeki as the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the October 25 council election in the area.

Abeki is said to be the choice candidate of Ijaw Leader, Chief Edwin Clark for the chairmanship of Patani Local Government.
The youths, who had carried out a street protest in Patani on Thursday, told reporters later that they could no longer accept a situation where Clark, who is not from Patani Local Government Area would be dictating those that should run the affairs of the area.
They said with due respect, they want the elder statesman to confine himself to Burutu, his local government area to decide who should be their chairman if the people would accept.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Nelson Ebiodouwei, Tare Bomotu, Dennis Akpotu and Nelly Koripamu appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to “intervene in the matter within two weeks before the matter gets out of hand.”
